What is prone bone?

The prone bone, also known as the fibula, is the smaller of the two bones located in the lower leg. It runs parallel to the tibia (shinbone) and plays a crucial role in ankle stability.

  • Location: Situated on the lateral (outer) side of the lower leg.

  • Function: Provides attachment points for muscles of the lower leg and ankle, contributing to ankle stability. It is not a weight-bearing bone in the same way as the tibia.

  • Structure:

  • Clinical Significance: The fibula is susceptible to fractures, often associated with ankle sprains or high-impact injuries. Fractures can affect ankle stability and may require surgical intervention. See: https://www.wikiwhat.page/kavramlar/Fibula%20Fracture It can also be used in reconstructive surgery, where a segment of the fibula is used to replace bone in other parts of the body.
